I Heart Faces - Best Photo Face of 2010

I am entering one of my favorite pictures from 2010 in this week's I Heart Faces photo challenge.  This is a picture of my son, Zack.

Just warms my heart every time I see it. :)

Check out I Heart Faces and enter their weekly photo contests, too!

So... yeah...

I wanted to work on this blog.  I really did.  But moving and life got in the way, so I am going to start again.  No harm done, right?  After all, no one reads it but me. :)

American

My cousin's husband deployed yesterday for a one year tour in Iraq.  I am so thankful that men and women like him, now and throughout history, have put themselves in danger to protect our country.

My cousin took a bunch of pictures at her husband's deployment.  The one below spoke to me, though, and so I grabbed it, cropped it a little, and adjusted the color.  I think it is just an amazing image that represents the sacrifices of the troops and their families.  My heart is with them all this 4th of July weekend.

You Capture: Hands / Green

So, I have been a You Capture lurker for a while.  A long while.  Now that I feel like I am actually working to improve my photography, I am ready to jump on the bandwagon.  You Capture is a fantastic weekly photo challenge posted by Beth over at I Should Be Folding Laundry.  Each week, she gives a different word or idea to think about when taking pictures that week.  Except for this week.  This week, there were three different words to choose from.  Hands.  Green.  Chair.

I ended up using both hands and green.  Do I get extra credit?

I call this shot, "Wow, Mom, I have never seen bug eggs before!"

Although I know the composition could be improved here, with everything shifted to the left a bit, I am proud of this shot.  I wanted to use depth of field with my son in the background, and it worked!  I actually got the camera to do what I wanted! Woot!

About me and this crazy blog

My name is Sara, and I am the wife to a great guy and a mom to three wonderful sons.  I am working hard to learn to be better at photography, which is something I have been interested in since I was little.  I purchased a Nikon D5000 this spring, and I am setting out to learn to use it.

So, why a blog?  I am pretty sure no one is following me here. :)  But having this blog is allowing me to post my work and talk myself through it.  It is making me accountable to myself. :)

So, here are a few favorites I have managed to get out of my camera so far, pretty much by accident.
